Multi-Year Implementation Projects

Kenya Agricultural Value Chain Enterprises (KAVES)

Engaged in implementing a multi-year value chain commercialization program that focused on the dairy, staples and horticulture value chains in Bomet, Nyamira and Kericho and reached 50,000+ farmers.

Value Chain Development Implementation

Building the capacity of 22,000 smallholder banana producers in Kirinyaga County towards enhanced productivity and facilitating linkages to markets and quality inputs.

Market Systems Support Programme: Consortium Implementation Partner 

EAMDA is facilitating the establishment of a competitive, inclusive and resilient agricultural market system in 10 value chains covering 12 Counties.

Value Chain Development

Implemented a dairy-based Sustainable Agriculture Land Management (SALM) project alongside Livelihood Ventures, Vi Agroforestry and Brookside Dairies, targeted at reaching 15,000 farmers.

KCB Mobigrow

Engaged in implementing a multi-year value chain development program targeting over 70,000 smallholder producers in three regions in Kenya.

Industry Analysis

Assessment of Kenya’s leading food processing sectors with the aim to advise the country’s Ministry of Industrialization and Enterprise Development on the sub-sectors to invest in for enhanced economic growth, job creation and import substitution.

Value Chain Studies in Kenya

Contracted by the UN’s World Food Program (WFP) to undertake a value chain assessment of key grains produced and traded in the program’s zone of influence that among others included the two counties of Baringo and West Pokot. Overall objective of the assignment was to help develop the local grain production capacity for local trade as well as supply its Home- Grown School Meals Program.

Business Planning for Regional Organization

Facilitating the development of the 2013 – 2017 business plan for the grain sector membership organization.

Strategy Development for Regional Organization

Facilitating the organization’s 2018 – 2022 strategic plan as well as undertaking a scoping study for a grain intervention focused on the Council’s 10 member countries.

USAID Eastern Africa Policy & Value Chains Assessment

Under the auspices of the USAID Regional Office of Economic Growth and Integration (OEGI) and Africa Lead, EAMDA undertook a rapid activity assessment on USAID's regional and country/bilateral missions’ specific value chains and policy priorities in Eastern Africa aimed at enhancing collaboration efforts between the regional and bilateral missions within the East Africa Region.

Enterprise Capacity Building

Providing technical assistance, conducting market research and developing business plans for the organization’s grantees.

Capacity Building Tools Development

Assessing the organization’s Grain Business Hub (GBH) Model.

Assessment of Impact and Lessons Learned of the Kenya Market-Led Horticulture Programme (KMHP, HortIMPACT)

EAMDA was contracted to carry out an end term evaluation of HortIMPACT program to assess the impact of the programme on business activities of partners and farmer beneficiaries as well as highlight lessons learned in relation to scalability, sustainability, and system change of its interventions.

Digital Capacity Building Platform

Providing business advisory services and training in business management as well as financial management to the firm’s 90 Dukas in Kawangware, Kibera and Pipeline suburbs of Nairobi.

Uganda Artificial Insemination Market Study & Kenya’s Dairy Sector Study

Contracted by Land O’ Lakes to undertake an in-depth assessment of Kenya’s Dairy sector as well as a study of the key drivers of artificial insemination adoption and market in Uganda.

Ethiopia Program Strategy Review and Design

Supporting CARE Ethiopia’s USAID/PRIME implementing team and partners in identifying and taping into market expansion opportunities for pastoral and agro-pastoral households in the project’s target areas.

Value Chain Support Programme Design and Implementation

EAMDA conducted a BDS training needs assessment for arid and semi-arid livestock markets aimed at supporting organized livestock traders and producer groups in Northern Kenya.

BDS Capacity Building of SME’s

Under a short-term consultancy by Land O’Lakes, EAMDA’s Senior Business Consultant lead a team that trained BDS service providers and SMEs in the livestock sector supporting livestock production and marketing in Eastern Kenya.

Mobile Based Agriculture Finance Product Design

Evaluated and provided insights into factors to be considered in the design of a mobile phone based (pay as you go) credit product for smallholder farmers in the dairy and maize sub-sectors for Mkopa Solar clients.

Digital Capacity Building Platform

Provided consultancy in the Connected Farmer Alliance Program, an a public-private partnership initiative that aimed to promote commercially sustainable mobile agriculture solutions and increase productivity and revenues for 500,000 smallholder farmers across Kenya, Tanzania and Mozambique. 

Smart Duka SACCO Feasibility Study

Conducted a feasibility assessment to establish the viability of setting up a Retail based savings and credit cooperative for Duka owners in Mathare, Mwiki, Kasarani, Dandora, Kangemi, Kawangware, Kibera, Umoja, Githurai and Kariobangi South suburbs of Nairobi.

Industry Analysis

Conducted a study on the state of dairy production and marketing in Kenya’s Western Kenya region alongside an analysis of the overall market ecosystem including impact of regulations.

Capacity Building Tools Development

Designed the Dairy Hub Model Training Manual to facilitate training for Heifer International’s staff in East Africa

Eastern Africa Study of Input Markets

Conducting a survey for the Open Society’s foundation on Kenya, Tanzania and Malawi’s input markets and related infrastructure.

Program Strategy Review and Design

Facilitating the foundation’s leadership in the development of a market-led climate resilience project.
